The works presented here thrive on physical presence to truly come to life in the virtual space. I hope to have the opportunity to showcase them to you during a studio visit at my Berlin studio or at the next exhibition.

This line of research delves into Aura and Value, which adds complexity to their presentation here. The appearance of “value” reacts to various factors, including the presence of my name in the http address, exhibition lists, or collaborations. The artist’s name also plays a part in the fetishistic aspect of the work, as noted by Benjamin. Value defines artworks, as they are historically and traditionally interconnected with phenomenological experiences of value. The manifestation of value in an artwork encompasses various forms of value expressed within it. Value is intended as a fundamental element of the artwork, akin to its materiality or the concept behind it. In this sense, value is both tangible and perceptible, reflecting the work’s immersion in economic flows, information networks, and artistic contexts.

Since 2013, my practice has revolved around the idea of the grey point as a potential starting point. Research into its modernist roots led to the discovery of iron powder, which can be found on Sardinian and Japanese beaches after stormy nights. I felt compelled to touch certain stones and objects to gauge time and attempted to sketch the horizon with the sun on the island of Thera.

Short Bio: Giovanni Casu was born in Sardinia. He moved to Paris in 2002, where he resided and exhibited his artworks for the next seven years. In 2007, he participated in Nuit Blanche Paris with “Le Puit.” Following a Culturia.de residency in 2009, he relocated to Berlin, where he has produced solo and collective exhibitions and developed a practice rooted in empirical discourse verification procedures. The Ecke Project (2010-2012) explores the relationship between art and neuroscience, while the Empirical Survey on a Heritage (2010-2014) investigates the consistency of Sardinian cultural identity through contemporary art practices. Since 2013, his artistic practice has focused on creative processes that explore the dynamic relationship between time and matter.
